BMA Book Club
By Alice Pattison
Confessions of a Shopaholic, If Looks Could Kill, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Red Tent, and Little Earthquakes are just a few of the books we have read in the BMA Book Club since it began in the spring of 2004. The club meets the first Wednesday of every other month to discuss a book selected by the hostess. On opposing months, members meet for dinner at a restaurant that fits with the theme of the book or select a restaurant on everyone's "must try soon" list.
Our first dinner, held at the Thai Place in Westport, had a total of three moms in attendance. From humble beginnings, we have grown into a large group with over ten attending most dinners and often the same numbers at the actual book club meeting. The initial club was made up of moms from a single playgroup, currently referred to as the Terrific Twos. This summer, we opened the club to all BMA Moms and would love for you to join us.
While we enjoy discussing the book, a good portion of our evening is spent enjoying food and conversation not always on topic. Book Club is a great opportunity to get to know other moms outside of the mommy realm. We always leave feeling well fed and like an adult again.
The next book selection is The Kite Runner. You won't be able to put it down! Join us on October 5th to share your thoughts on the book and whatever else may come up!
