Passover: Origins
Passover is one of the most popular Jewish holidays, and a time for family
and friends to gather.
The eight-day long celebration begins on the night of the fifteenth day
of the month of Nissan of
the Hebrew calendar; the first night this year is Wednesday, April 12.
The highlight of the celebration is the ceremony of Seder on the first two
evenings. Passover marks the beginning of the harvest season in Israel,
but the observance is also related to the exodus of Hebrew slaves from Egypt
after generations of slavery.
